John Fentener van Vlissingen, who founded the travel company BCD Holdings in 1975 and is its chairman since 2003, is known as an international entrepreneur and business leader. For many years he also is a lover of art. In 2008 he founded the Van Vlissingen Art Foundation. The foundation’s goal is to promote current talented Dutch artists that work in another country and to broaden interest in their work.
Each year the foundation selects a new talent and publishes a series of books about the artists, under the name Inspiration, with photographs and descriptions of their work. Together with the publication of the book, the foundation organizes an exhibition of the selected artist’s work. This year the Dutch sculptor Eppe de Haan, working in Italy, was selected and BCD Holdings’ business friends and relations were invited for the opening reception of his selected work in The Hague, the Netherlands on June 18, 2009.
